Existential active integrity constraints

چکیده
Active integrity constraints (AICs) are a useful formalism to express and policies restore consistency in databases violating them. However, AICs do not allow users different kinds of commonly arising practice, such as foreign keys. In this paper, we propose existential active (EAICs), powerful extension that allows us wide range used ontological systems. We investigate properties EAICs. Specifically, show there exists “representative” set founded updates, called universal, which suffices for query answering. As might contain an infinite number each size, study syntactic restrictions ensuring finiteness, well the existence single universal update.

M Managing Inconsistent Databases Using Active Integrity Constraints Managing Inconsistent Databases Using Active Integrity Constraints
INTRODUCTION Integrity constraints are a fundamental part of a database schema. They are generally used to define constraints on data (functional dependencies, inclusion dependencies , exclusion dependencies, etc.), and their enforcement ensures a semantically correct state of a database. As the presence of data inconsistent with respect to integrity constraints is not unusual, its management p...
متن کاملActive Integrity Constraints for Multi-context Systems
We introduce a formalism to couple integrity constraints over general-purpose knowledge bases with actions that can be executed to restore consistency. This formalism generalizes active integrity constraints over databases. In the more general setting of multi-context systems, adding repair suggestions to integrity constraints allows defining simple iterative algorithms to find all possible gro...
متن کاملA Dynamic View of Active Integrity Constraints
Active integrity constraints have been introduced in the database community as a way to restore integrity. We view active integrity constraints as programs of Dynamic Logic of Propositional Assignments DL-PA and show how several semantics of database repair that were proposed in the literature can be characterised by DL-PA formulas. We moreover propose a new definition of repair. For all these ...
متن کاملRepairing ABoxes through Active Integrity Constraints
In the literature of database repairing, active integrity constraints have provided a means of restoring integrity through a set of preferred update actions. While this is a known issue in the database community, it has not yet been directly applied to description logics. In this paper, we extend description logic TBoxes by a similar set of preferred actions and tackle the problem of ABox repai...
متن کاملDeclarative Semantics for Active Integrity Constraints
We study active integrity constraints, a formalism designed to describe integrity constraints on databases and to specify preferred ways to enforce them. The original semantics proposed for active integrity constraints is based on the concept of a founded repair. We point out that groundedness underlying founded repairs does not prevent cyclic justifications and so, may be inappropriate in some...
